Our family has enjoyed having foreign exchange students stay with us. It isn’t always convenient but most of the times the pros outweigh the cons. Our children are in dual immersion language programs so when we have students that speak Spanish or Chinese then our children can practice their target language outside of school too.

    1. I would love to host a foreign exchange student. I think that would be a great learning experience for the kids.

  4. I like the idea of doing craigslist tutoring on the side. I\’ve made a few hundred doing that, and probably made at least $1000 from taking advantage of the credit card rewards programs, most specifically Chase and Citi w American Airlines. Amazing how you can earn extra cash on the side if you try hard enough. Still trying to get the blog to produce though, haha

    1. There are really so many ways to make money, and a lot of them don’t even take that much effort. On the other hand, blogging takes lots of time and effort to get things going…but the payoff can be huge.

  5. Awesome list Greg! There are so many ways to make extra money out there, you just have to be willing to put out some effort and look for opportunity.

    1. So true! A lot of these don’t even take that much effort. It’s just a matter of finding them and signing up 🙂

  6. I like how you gave specific examples of places you can work for extra money. Honestly some of these things (working on a farm) sound like the last thing I’d want to do, but for some people it may actually be a good fit.

    1. There are a lot of things I wouldn’t want to do either. Of course, doing things others don’t want to do is one of the best ways to make extra money 🙂

  7. You can also transcribe videos from home!

If you speak a foreign language, the courts want your help and will pay you well.

  8. No shortage of ways to grind up a living by yourself. The 21st century economy allows anyone to choose themselves if they have the discipline to stick to it!

  9. Selling legos?? My childhood!! In all seriousness, this is a great list. Job security is getting almost nonexistent these days with employers taking advantage of their transient advantages. Not being dependent on your employer for income is becoming a necessity, not an option!

    1. Absolutely. Although this list isn’t necessarily about growing a career, some of these jobs could certainly turn into one. Many people think that keeping a regular job is the best way to achieve stability. But, when you learn how to make money on your own, nobody can take that skill away from you.

    1. That’s true. I added a quick note to make that a bit more clear in the piece.

  10. Love the listing! I am always looking for side hustles and there are a lot of good ones on here. For me, I sometimes need ones that I can do when I have time because of work and you definitely opened my eyes to a few of them. Specifically, I opened the link and am checking out TaskRabbit to see what hustles I can pick up on the side. Thanks for taking the time to put this together!

  11. Wow, if you can’t find something on this list…you don’t want it bad enough. Great post Greg.

So important to use several of these as a work from home freelancer/blogger. I’ve seen months where one source dropped to nothing but others kept me above water.

  12. Thanks for sharing all of these ideas! I also appreciate the Upwork suggestion because I have been wanting to start freelance writing! I also want to own rental property in the future!

Definitely using this as a resource in the future!

  13. Ha- such a great list! We are constantly looking for little side hustles (we are blogging about gettin out of our $600k in student loan debt) so this list is perfect for us! Thanks! Also- selling plasma. Ahh. We did it in college. Its such easy money but just can’t bring ourselves to do it again! somehow it feels like selling your soul. With scars.

    1. Ha! I hear ya. I can’t do the plasma thing either…Good luck with the debt! You can do it!

  14. One edit:
There are several things listed here that would require state board licensing in the states. Might be worth adding the notations. Just mentioning because the fines, and depending on violation, potential jail time isn’t worth the extra buck.
For example, things that may involve cosmetology, massage therapy, contracting (or a sub-sector there of), commercial driving). Readers should do their research but they don’t always.

    1. Hey Danielle,

Thanks for reading. We do mention that specifically in the piece – “…most of these jobs don’t require any special licensing, but check your local rules to be sure.”

  15. Hi,I’ve always loved finding thrift store goods, whether it be clothes or something my husband and I can repurpose or refurbish. I’ve also, since I was younger, wanted to open up a thrift store where my husband and I could show off our fashion styles, how we repurpose & refurbish items and also our design knowledge. But like everything else it takes money & time to start anything and turn it over quickly for a profit. What are some ways we could get started with our passions and still have time with our family and still pay our bills?

  16. I am a blogger for 2 years now and i am looking every day for new oportunities and easy ways. But this is no easy..Thank you for sharing this huge article

  17. That’s a pretty extensive list. There are literally hundreds of ways to make a few bucks out there. I’m now past $1,300 just on Swagbucks alone. I’ve also tried out some of the other options. People waste a bunch of time watching TV. Why not do some mindless tasks to make a few bucks at the same time?

  18. Great article, thank you!
I tried all kinds of ways to make money online
What works best for me is Koocam.
I teach my hobbies, and sells my knowledge in every field
    It’s great

  19. Ebay has worked for me to make extra money, at first I was selling things around the house we did not use anymore, now it has become a serious income source.

  20. I think other website owners should take this site as an example,
very clean and good user pleasant style.

  21. Great Tips! Such a great information.

I agree with you that “Freelance writing is the single best (and fastest) way to earn extra money online.” I have always been facing problems with Making Extra Money and was trying to hire someone to help me.

The way you have stated everything above is quite awesome. Thanks a lot for sharing.

  22. Awesome list Greg. I have another to add to your list that’s almost as easy to do as going for a walk! I provide a litter cleanup service on foot using inexpensive hand tools outside commercial properties. I contract with property management companies to maintain their retail, office or industrial properties litter free after hours. Great side hustle as the work won’t conflict with your day job. I started this service as a side gig in 1981 and grew it into a successful business I continue operate today.

  23. That was a long list and I think I am going to try some of the ideas from the list which can be very useful for me to make money especially driving for Uber. Thanks for sharing the post.

  24. Great List! I’m always looking for more ways to make money.

Also, as far as Fiverr.com. I have to add this… I saw a gig on there that someone was offering and I thought it was genius. This guy lived in NYC and the gig was “For $15 I’ll distribute 10 of your business flyers along the street.” Why didn’t I think of that when I lived in a big city?! You could do that and make money while walking your dog if you live in a popular area!

  25. I love how “Driving A School Bus” is on this list. I honestly would’ve never thought about this, but it makes total sense. However, I’m not sure I would accept anything less than $100,000 a day to drive kids around in a mobile playground. lol

    Thanks for sharing!

  26. Awesome list Greg! There are so many ways to make extra money out there, you just have to be willing to put out some effort and look for opportunity.

  27. I earn on dividends. One way to make money on dividends is to buy shares after the company announces payments. It remains to follow the announcements and choose securities with an attractive dividend yield for investment. Such strategies allow you to make money on the growth of quotations. Investors are attracted by profitability, and they start buying stocks, thereby raising prices.

  28. Hi, Greg! Another side gig (that can turn into a regular job) is lawn mowing. LawnStarter and Lawn Love are two lawn care companies with pros all across the country. Customers book service through the platforms and pros get a cut from the price of the lawn care job. The advantage for the lawn mowing crew is all billing is handled by the company, and the crew gets access to loads more jobs around them via the companies’ routing software, saving time, money, and gas. PS: Say hi to Holly for me. Holly wrote for me in a previous job at CreditCards.com.
