The pandemic may be holding you back from reaching your travel goals this year, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be racking up travel rewards for the future. After all, COVID-19 will eventually run its course, and when it does, most of us will be ready to get far, far away from where we’ve been holed up for the bulk of 2020.

With that in mind, I do think it’s pretty hard to justify quite a few travel credit cards this year. I wouldn’t want to sign up for a hotel credit card that doled out points for a single program, nor would I focus my energy on earning airline miles. I would much rather earn flexible points for travel I can use in a ton of ways once I’m ready.

That’s why I’m excited about the new Hotels.com credit card, which launched in September. This card is one of the most rewarding travel products in the market, with 2.2% back towards a hotel for each $1 spent. The hotel credit card also works in conjunction with the Hotels.com rewards program, which lets you earn “stamps” good for award nights when you pay for stays through the platform.

The new Hotels.com® Rewards Visa® Credit Card makes it easy to earn travel rewards now you can use later on, once you’re sure you should venture out. Here are the main reasons you should consider signing up sooner rather than later.

#1: Snag a Reward Night Upfront

Like all good rewards credit cards, the Hotels.com® Rewards Visa® Credit Card lets you score a reward night as a “signup bonus.” To earn a reward night upfront, all you have to do is spend $1,000 on your card within three months of account opening. Once you reach that spending threshold, you’ll receive a reward night worth up to $125.

#2: Earn Hotel Nights Without Dealing with a Complicated Hotel Loyalty Program

One of the main benefits of the Hotels.com® Rewards Visa® Credit Card is the fact you don’t have to deal with a specific type of hotel “points.” You can use the rewards you earn with this program to stay in more than 500,000 properties in over 200 countries and territories around the world.

You won’t have to worry about blackout dates or caps on reward nights, either. Just earn enough stamps to score a reward night and you can book any type of stay you want.

#3: Use Your Rewards for Rental Condos, Bed-n-Breakfasts, and Other Unique Stays

Another major feature of this rewards credit card and program is the fact that Hotels.com doesn’t just have hotels on their site. You can also book a three-bedroom house for a vacation getaway with your family, a rental condo in a major city, a stay in a quaint bed-n-breakfast and more.

If you take the time to dig around on the Hotels.com website, you’ll find they have a lot more than hotels. They even have all-inclusive resorts that let you enjoy your food, drinks, and entertainment in the price of your lodging, and you can use your rewards for this type of property as well.

#4: There’s No Annual Fee

This card charges $0 in annual fees, so you don’t have anything to lose by signing up now to earn travel rewards for later on. If the pandemic stretches on longer than you hoped and you don’t feel comfortable traveling for a while, you can continue racking up stamps for reward nights until you’re good and ready.

#5: Get “Silver Membership” for a Year

As a cardholder, you’ll also qualify for “Silver Membership” in the Hotels.com rewards program. This elite tier of membership can help you score travel perks such as free breakfast, airport transfers, free Wi-Fi and more at select VIP properties.

#6: Spend However You Want

Another major perk of this card is the incredible lack of complexity and hoops to jump through. Once you sign up and start using your card, you’ll earn a “stamp” for every $500 you spend on your credit card no matter which category you spend in. Once you earn 10 stamps via credit card spending, you’ll secure a reward night worth $110.

From there, you can use your reward night to book any stay you want on Hotels.com. You don’t have to search for award availability or plan your vacation around a specific destination, either.

#7: Score Cell Phone Protection and Other Cardholder Perks

Finally, don’t forget that this card comes with quite a few benefits for a travel credit card with no annual fee. As a cardholder, you’ll receive cell phone protection worth up to $600 as well as travel and emergency assistance services, auto rental collision damage waiver, roadside dispatch, up to $150,000 in travel accident insurance, trip cancellation and interruption insurance, and more.

The Bottom Line

Don’t wait until you’re ready to travel to start earning travel rewards. By signing up for the Hotels.com® Rewards Visa® Credit Card, you can snag a reward night up front and earn stamps to use for reward nights later on.
