Welcome back Thriftaholics!
It’s April, the weather is getting warmer, and we’ve got a super hot deal for you. It’s a way to save money on something you buy all the time… but, more on that in a second.
If you’ve been following our social media accounts over the past few weeks, you’re probably wondering what the heck is going on with Shell. You know we don’t do a ton of promotions, so why does a gas station keep showing up in our feeds?
Here’s why: This month, we’ve partnered with Shell and the Fuel Rewards® program to help you save 25 cents a gallon on gas.
Boom. How do you like them apples?
Now that we have your attention, let’s take a closer look at what the Fuel Rewards program has to offer… and how you can save 25 cents a gallon on gas!
Basics of the Fuel Rewards Program
As you know, we love all things rewards. It’s our thing. Heck, we’ve even got this gigantic beginner’s guide to rewards cards for you to use.
Anyway, when we heard about Shell and the Fuel Rewards program, we had to give it a closer look.
Here’s the nitty gritty: Joining the Fuel Rewards program is absolutely free, and – just for being a member – you save 3 to 5 cents at the pump every time you buy Shell fuel. What’s more, you can earn additional fuel savings each time you make a purchase at any of the retailers or restaurants included in Shell’s extensive partner network.
When you’re ready to redeem your savings, simply swipe your Fuel Rewards card at the pump or inside the store. (FYI, your Alt ID – which is your phone number – works too.) Select the option to redeem your savings, and you’re good to go!
The awesome thing about these rewards is that you can use them right away. There’s no saving up points for months. And, unlike some other loyalty programs where you earn points toward random merchandise you don’t need, the Fuel Rewards program offers you immediate savings on something you buy all the time anyway – fuel.
Join Now, Save 25¢ a Gallon
So, where’s the 25¢ a gallon savings? I’m glad you asked.
If you’re not a member of the Fuel Rewards program, now is the perfect time to sign up. They’re running a great promotion for new members throughout April and most of May.
Sign up for Fuel Rewards between now and May 27th, and save an extra 25 cents per gallon on your second fill at Shell.
Yep, you read that right: 25 cents per gallon.
Here’s how to take advantage of this limited time offer:
- Join the Fuel Rewards program between April 2nd and May 27th – simple!
- Get a Fuel Rewards card or Alt ID to use with your Fuel Rewards account. Getting a Fuel Rewards® card is easy: Grab one inside a Shell station or use this link to join and request your card be mailed to you. You’ll set up an Alt ID when you join and can use that to redeem your rewards immediately.
- Buy at least 5 gallons of fuel at a participating Shell station by June 30th, 2018 – don’t forget to use your Fuel Rewards card or Alt ID.
- Save 5 cents per gallon on every fill at Shell for the next 6 months PLUS get an additional 25 cents per gallon off your second fill. Yep, you get to stack your rewards which makes this an even better deal!
Keep in mind, this reward is available to use right away.
After your first Shell fuel purchase of at least 5 gallons, your reward stays valid until the end of the following month. So, if you join Fuel Rewards on April 17th and make your first Shell fuel purchase on April 19th, your 25 cents per gallon reward is available to use until the end of May.
If you’re like most people, you probably buy fuel at least twice a month. Since you’ll save money and your Fuel Rewards membership is free, to me, this is practically a no-brainer.

Enjoy Gold Status For Your First 6 Months
Everybody loves status, right?
When you become a Fuel Rewards member during the promotional period, you’ll also get “Gold Status” for 6 months after joining.
So, what the heck does that mean?
Well, with Gold Status, you’ll save 5 cents per gallon every time you fill up with Shell fuel. Remember, that also stacks with the 25 cents per gallon savings on your second fill for even more savings.
Unlike some promotional offers, it’s super-easy to maintain your Gold Status membership after those first six months, too. All you have to do is fill up six times during the previous three months. That’s only twice a month, so it doesn’t take much.
If you fill up fewer than six times in three months, no worries. You still enjoy Silver Status, which saves you 3 cents per gallon on every Shell fuel fill. That’s still an excellent value for a completely free loyalty program! If at any point your fuel needs change, and you meet the criteria for Gold Status, you’ll automatically be upgraded.
Other Fuel Rewards Perks
Fuel Rewards members can earn additional Fuel Rewards savings by linking a debit or credit card to their account and using that card to shop at one of the gazillion merchants or restaurants participating in the program. OK, that may be an exaggeration, but you get the point: There are a lot of partners to choose from.
For example, Fuel Rewards members earn an additional 10 cents per gallon in savings for every $50 they spend at participating restaurants. Learn more about all the ways to earn extra Fuel Rewards savings here.
Wrapping Up
Whew! Did you get all that? Here’s a quick recap, just in case you missed anything:
