Where It Shines

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Card is, quite simply, one of the best travel credit cards available. Even better, the card packs a ton of value into its various credits and benefits. Unlike some of the card’s competitors, these perks are easy to understand and simple to use.

First, let’s talk about the welcome offer. You’ll earn 75,000 bonus miles when you spend $4,000 over the first 3 months. Once you meet the requirement, the 75K bonus miles are worth $750 in statement credits toward travel expenses.

In addition to the welcome offer, the Capital One Venture X Card comes with a host of other bonuses and credits. You’ll get up to $300 in annual statement credits toward travel purchases booked through Capital One Travel. You’ll also receive 10,000 bonus miles each year on your account anniversary. Those bonus miles are worth $100 toward travel expenses purchased using your card.

The Capital One Venture X Card also comes with a $100 credit toward Global Entry or TSA Precheck fees. (This covers the entire fee for either program.) You’ll also enjoy complimentary airport lounge access at the expanding network of Capital One Lounges, plus you’ll get access to more that 1,400 Priority Pass lounges worldwide.

When it comes to the earnings structure, the Venture X Card is no slouch either. The card earns 10x miles on rental cars and hotels booked through the Capital One Travel portal. It also earns 5x points on flights booked through the portal and 2x miles on all other purchases.

Additionally, Capital One continues to improve their partnerships with hotel, airline, and rental car loyalty programs. You can now transfer your miles to more than 15 partner loyalty programs – including British Airways, Emirates, Wyndham Rewards, and more.

Things You Might Not Like About the Card

So, what’s not to like about the Capital One Venture X Rewards Card? For starters, the $395 annual fee on this card is certain to turn off some people.

With that said, premium rewards cards offer bigger benefits but come with higher fees. The Venture X Rewards Card is no different, and its $395 annual fee is considerably less than its two biggest competitors in the space.

Additionally, if you’re a frequent traveler, the value of the card’s benefits outweigh the cost of the annual fee. Every year, the card provides up to $400 toward travel expenses – up to $300 in travel statement credits for purchases through Capital One Travel and 10,000 bonus miles that are worth $100 in travel credits.

Remember, that is just the annual travel credits. There is also the airport lounge access, the Global Entry/TSA Precheck credit, and more to consider. Plus, if you earn the welcome bonus during the first year ($750 value), you come out way ahead.

Alternatives to the Capital One Venture X Rewards Card

The card_name is a great premium travel rewards card, but it isn’t the only option on the market.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

If you like the simplicity of Capital One but don’t like the annual fee of the Venture X, the card_name is a great alternative.

With the Venture Rewards Card, you’ll earn 75,000 bonus miles for making $4,000 in purchases during the first 3 months. Those points are worth $750 in statement credits when you use your card for purchases with any airline or hotel.

Like the Venture X Card, this card also offers a $100 credit toward Global Entry/TSA Precheck. It earns 5x miles on prepaid rental car and hotel purchases through the Capital One Travel portal and 2x miles per dollar on all other purchases. Again, these points are super flexible and can be used for statement credit or transferred to any of Capital One’s 15+ travel partners.

Although you won’t find the same premium benefits on this card, the annual fee is only $95 per year.

Chase Sapphire Reserve®

card_name

The card_name comes packed with premium travel benefits that we love. It also earns points through Chase Ultimate Rewards – our favorite rewards program of all.

Earning the welcome bonus on the Sapphire Reserve takes less of a commitment than it does with the Venture X Card. At 50,000 points for spending $4,000 in the first 3 months, the welcome bonus is much easier to earn and worth nearly as much ($750 value when points are used through Chase Ultimate Rewards).

The Chase Sapphire Reserve also offers a host of credits and benefits – including a $300 annual travel credit, access to Priority Pass airport lounges, and up to $100 toward TSA Precheck or Global Entry fees. Benefits with companies like Lyft and DoorDash make the card even more valuable.

When you use the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, you’ll earn 10x points on hotels and rental cars while airline purchases will net you 5 points per dollar. The card also earns 3x points on all other travel and dining purchases. The annual fee is $550, but the benefits make this our favorite premium travel card on the market.

The Platinum Card® from American Express

card_name

Last but not least is card_name. With this card, $6,000 in purchases during the first 6 months nets you 80,000 points. Those points are worth $1,000 in statement credits when you use them to book flights or hotels through Amex Travel.

The Amex Platinum Card also offers a $200 annual statement credit when you prepay your booking with Fine Hotels & Resorts or The Hotel Collection (minimum two-night stay required). There is up to $100 in reimbursements available for TSA Precheck or Global Entry fees (enrollment required), status upgrades from Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy (enrollment required), and access to various airport lounge programs.

There are various other benefits, but many of them are super targeted and can be difficult to use. The annual fee also costs a hefty $695 (card_name), but it can still be a good card for the right person.
