It’s Labor Day weekend as I write this, and of course I’m working. Womp womp.

While it’s a bummer to pound away at the keyboard on a Saturday, working weekends has been essential these past few months. You see, I’ve been working on my course, Earn More Writing every night from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. On top of that, we have a few trips coming up that will drastically cut down on the number of days I can work. With all of this in mind, I have no choice but to work nights and weekends for the time being.

It’s either that or clone myself, right?

Updates On My Course, EarnMoreWriting.com

As I mentioned last month, the course I’m creating for freelance writers launches in October. In August, I spent time creating printable resources and recording some of the videos. I have a few videos left to record in September, but I’m mostly done. Once the course launches in early October, I plan to spend more time on the management and promotion side. Regardless, I cannot wait to get started!

When creating this course, I tried to think of all the things *I* wish I had known when I first got started. While some of the advice I offer is pure common sense, the rest is built around lessons I learned through trial, error, and experience. For all of my successes, I have made a ton of mistakes! By leaning on some of my advice and doing things the right way from the start, new writers can reach freelance success at a much faster pace.

$27,453 in August Income

Obviously, in terms of income, we had a really awesome month in August. A convergence of factors lead to more freelance income and a pretty good month of affiliate marketing as well. Oh, and did I mention I worked my azz off? Honestly, my August workload was absolutely brutal. Unfortunately, with all the stuff I have coming up, I had no choice but to hustle and get ahead!

Considering the fact we made $22,145 in July, I’m pretty happy with our August income total.

In case you’re wondering, here’s an estimate of how our August income breaks down. I might be a few dollars or cents off here and there, but you get the point!

  • Consulting, Sponsorship, and Affiliate Income: $5,371
  • Content Creation and Freelancing: $22,082
  • Freelance Writing Course: $0 (My course doesn’t open until October 3rd, so I won’t start receiving funds until 30 – 60 days after that. Nothing to show until next month at the very earliest!)

Boom.

Speaking of my course, you can save 10 percent by signing up before the initial launch on October 3rd. Plus, I am hosting a free freelancing webinar tonight and later this month! During this 40-minute webinar, I’ll introduce the basics of getting started as a freelance writer, along with some tips and tricks I have learned along the way. You can also ask questions at the end. If you want to hang out with me online, you can sign up for the webinar here.

While our income is definitely following an upward trajectory, it certainly fluctuates from month to month. Here are a few of our income reports from previous months:

Website Expenses

Our expenses are slightly higher this month because we hired a one-time consultant to help us with a few issues. Considering this is a one-time expense, I’m perfectly fine with it! We also employ a really awesome VA who has been helping with all sorts of stuff. Behold our expenses for August of 2016!

  • Internet: $51
  • Blog Hosting: $15
  • Misc. Advertising: $300
  • Virtual Assistant: $180
  • Consulting: $2,000

Total: $2,546

Final Thoughts

So far, 2016 has been one for the record books. With my course launching later next month and our book, Zero Down Your Debt, hitting stores on January 10th, 2017, we have a ton of exciting stuff in the works! Personally, I hope to work a little less this fall and winter and enjoy the many trips we have planned instead. After having an “extra” project on my plate for the last year, I am excited at the prospect of slowing down and taking the time to smell the roses.

After all, isn’t that what’s life about? I’m telling you, all work and no play is making Holly a dull, dull girl. By this time next year, I hope to be enjoying life more and working a whole lot less.

  1. I’m a fan of the cooler weather and a chance to open windows. No A/C and heat for a bit sounds good to me. Falls always marks football season. Which is my favorite sport. Bitter sweet this year as my son may play his last year as a high school senior.

  2. I can definitely see you have an amazing work ethic Holly! Thanks for sharing your stats! If you’re willing to share, I’d love to know more about type of things you hire consultants for (since you seem to have this pretty well figured out!) I’ve paid for a few things just to get a better understanding and I think others would think that is crazy 🙂

    1. We hire people to help with SEO and strategizing. Right now, we hired one of my old bosses to figure out why we had a dip in traffic and what we can do about it. It always helps to have a second set of eyes and an outsider’s perspective.

  3. Nicely done, Holly! I have no doubt your hard work on nights and weekends will pay off. And taking some time to relax this fall sounds divine! August was an okay income month for me. I was mostly focused on getting organized with various health expenses and taking advantage of my health insurance before I lost it — dental surgery, new glasses, blood work, dermatology appointments, etc. I didn’t realize how much of my month that would eat up, but I know it will save me thousands for the rest of the year!

  4. Love the “Boom.” after your breakdown of income, definitely worthy of a boom or two! You guys are smashing it, must feel good that all those long hours are paying off. Your income is definitely on the up and up!

Hope you get to enjoy one of these getaways you mentioned sooner rather than later.

  5. All your hard work is paying off. I can’t wait for the class to start. I’ve taken other writing classes but from people that have portfolio careers.

I really want to learn from someone that does most of their living from writing. =)

    1. Yeah, I don’t get that. A few people who have writing courses haven’t actually built big writing careers. And sorry, but getting published on Huffington Post doesn’t count – it doesn’t pay anything! =) I just shake my head. I hope you like the course!

  6. Wow you have a lot going on with the book and upcoming course! Congrats on all of that and the great income this month. The vacation will be well deserved.

  7. There have been more than a few times that we have had to put our heads down and push through. It pays off, but it’s great to take a break after that. 2012-2015 were so crazy, it’s been even more sweet to take a year off. But like I tell my kids, you need to make hay while the sun shines. =)

  8. Oh wow, awesome month! Your freelance income is out of control. I’ve been slowly backing away from freelancing and focusing more on my courses and products and it’s been a good transition so for. I’m all about the vacations too. I’ve been traveling much more this year and it’s so nice to be able to work from anywhere!

  9. It seems there\’s a common thread with these income reports and that\’s dont look to affiliate income to generate most of your dollars. Try doing a consulting freelancing side gig and that would bump you up

  10. Great job! I’m so excited for your course to launch. It will be great!

  11. I can relate with working nights & weekends. I just started teaching Spanish and I work on lesson plans and tests after school on many nights. But it’s only for a season. I hope there’s lots of buzz for your upcoming course & congrats on the Plutus nomination!

  12. The report looks fantastic, congratulations! I love reading other’s income reports 🙂 Leveraging the internet for passive and side income is so fascinating and lucrative.

    1. Hey there!

Yes, all of the different types of content I create on the web. That includes copy for businesses, blog posts, research-type articles, ghostwriting, etc.! Come to my webinar next week!

  13. Wow, that is great! Congratulations! When you say “content creation” would you mind sharing what that is referring to? I’m excited about your Freelance Writing course, btw!

    1. Hey! When I say content creation, I’m referring to web content I create for other websites. So blog posts, professional articles I write, copy for websites, ghostwriting, etc. And yes, thanks for your interest in my course! I am having a webinar again next week: https://clubthrifty.com/freelance-webinar-registration

Otherwise, you can buy any time at EarnMoreWriting.com.
